Rule 6 letter
A Rule 6 letter or notice refers to a stage in the process of obtaining permission for developments which are categorised as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP). The process is referred to as a Development Consent Order (DCO) and the Rule 6 letter or notice is issued by the Planning Inspectorate giving Notice of the Preliminary Meeting concerning the NSIP matter under consideration, normally sent to all relevant consultation parties. It precedes a Rule 8 Notice which formally opens the examination stage of the process by confirming the procedural decisions made following the preliminary meeting.
